When it comes to Hoi An, people often think about the old houses, historical Bridge Pagoda or legendary Hoai River, along with sparkling lanterns. It’s little-known that Hoi An is also famous for delicious specialties, which lures the footsteps of tourists to come back this ancient town.
Cao Lau – Hoi An dried-noodle with pork
Visiting Hoi An, people will never forget popular Cao Lau dish, which is one of the traditional dishes of this ancient city of Quang Nam province. This special dish is carefully made from the local sticky rice. Water used to soak rice must be taken from wells in Ba Le Village, thus, noodle will be soft and endurable.
Cao Lau is served with some meat slices mixed with fat, vegetable, bean sprouts, greasy coconut, bitter green cabbage, and dry pancakes thick with much sesame on the surface.
You can easily come across Cao Lau eateries on the streets in Hoi An, or taste it in restaurants on Tran Phu Street such as Ba Be, or Trung Bac.
My Quang – Quang noodle
Some visitors feel confused between Cao Lau and My Quang. It’s all the popular dishes in Hoi An and Quang Nam. The noodle is yellow or white in color, made from rice flour. It is mixed with shrimp, pork, typical vegetables, and topped with grilled rice paper and spices. This dish is similar to Pho in Hanoi because the noodles are made from rice and covered with the broth as serving.
My Quang is sold at many places in Hoi An, Quang Nam. Visitors can enjoy this famous dish on Thai Phien Street or from street vendors.
Com Ga – Hoi An Chicken rice
Spending a night in the town, under shimmering lantern and old houses, you cannot ignore delicious Com Ga. This dish is very simple, including only rice, chicken, sauce, and pickled carrots, but it’s not easy to cook the tasty chicken rice plate. The chicken meat is torn into small pieces and then mixed with crushed onions and other spices. This dish is served up with spicy chili sauce, and decorated with peppermint, papaya, and salted onions, which is so attractive and special.
Visiting Hoi An, you can enjoy Com Ga at some famous places like Com Ga Ba Buoi (26 Phan Chau Trinh), Com Ga Ba Huong, Com Ga Ba Minh, Com Ga Ba Nga, etc.
